2. HEALTH HAZARD INFORMATION


2.1 Health Effects - Acute

Swallowed

May cause circulatory system failure. May cause cardiac disturbances. May cause corrosion and permanent tissue destruction of the oesophagus and digestive tract. May cause tremors and convulsions.

Eye

Causes eye burns.

Skin

Causes skin burns.

Inhaled

Causes severe irritation of upper respiratory tract with coughing, burns, breathing difficulty, and possible coma.

2.2 Health Effects - Chronic

Target organs : kidneys, central nervous system, cardiovascular system. Chronic ingestion may cause dizziness, ringing in the ears, visual disturbances, tremors and mental confusion. Prolonged absorption may affect electrolyte balance and impair kidney renal function.

2.3 First Aid

Swallowed

DO NOT induce vomiting. If victim is conscious and alert, give 2 - 4 cupfuls of milk or water. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. Get medical aid immediately.

Eye

Immediately flush eyes with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes occasionally lifting the upper and lower lids. Get medical aid immediately.

Skin

Get medical aid immediately. Immediately flush skin with plenty of soap and water for at least 15 minutes while removing contaminated clothing and shoes. Destroy contaminated shoes.

Inhaled

Get medical aid immediately. Remove from exposure to fresh air immediately. If not breathing, give artificial respiration. If breathing is difficult give oxygen.

First Aid Facilities

Ensure an eye bath and safety shower are available and ready for use.
